β οΈ Match Your File to What You Declare
This tool only builds a pointer to your file β it doesn't transcode, resize, or re-encode anything. If the file itself is poorly encoded, or doesn't match the Duration/Width/Height you enter below, viewers see stalls, black frames, skipped playback, or the ad failing to load at all. A few minutes of care here avoids most of that:
- Video: MP4 container, H.264 video codec, AAC audio β the most universally supported combination across VAST players and devices.
- Audio: MP3, 128kbps, 44.1kHz stereo β a safe baseline every DAAST-compatible player can handle.
- Match your numbers exactly: the Duration and Width/Height you enter must match the real file. A mismatch is one of the most common causes of an ad that stalls or won't play.
- Enable "fast start" on MP4s (moves the moov atom to the front of the file, e.g.
ffmpeg -movflags +faststart) so playback can begin before the whole file downloads β without it, players often buffer needlessly even on a fast connection. - Keep bitrate proportional to the ad's length: a 15β30 second ad rarely needs more than 2β5 Mbps at 1280Γ720. Oversized files are the single biggest cause of buffering, regardless of the viewer's connection speed.
- Use a constant frame rate (CFR), not variable (VFR): VFR footage (common from screen recordings and some phone cameras) can cause stuttering or audio drift in players that don't handle it well.
- Host on a fast, reliable server or CDN: even a perfectly encoded file will buffer if it's served from slow or oversubscribed hosting β this is often the real cause when "everything looks right" but playback still stutters.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a VAST tag?
VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) is an IAB XML standard that tells a video player where to find an ad's media file, click-through URL, and tracking pixels. Pasting a VAST tag URL into a compatible player is how most pre-roll and mid-roll video ads are delivered.
What is VMAP, and how is it different from VAST?
VMAP (Video Multiple Ad Playlist) schedules one or more VAST ad breaks β pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll β within a single piece of content. A VAST tag describes one ad (or one pod of ads); a VMAP tag describes when several of those ad breaks should play.
Is this tool really free? What's the catch?
There's no catch. The free tier has no account, no upload, and no cost β the only requirement is that your media file is already hosted somewhere with a public URL. Uploading and hosting files directly on our server is a planned premium feature, not a free one.
Can I include multiple ads in one VAST tag?
Yes β use "Add Another Ad" in the builder to create a multi-ad pod: one VAST tag URL that returns several ads in sequence, for players that support ad pods.
What video and audio formats are supported?
Any publicly reachable file URL will work, but for the smoothest, buffer-free playback we recommend MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, and MP3 at 128kbps/44.1kHz for audio β see the format guidance further down this page.
Do I need to create an account?
No. The free builder works entirely from what you type into the form β nothing is stored on our server, and there's no sign-up.
